Gotthold Gloger (born June 17, 1924 in Königsberg , East Prussia , † October 16, 2001 in Gransee ) was a German writer and painter .

Life

Gotthold Gloger received painting and drawing lessons as a child. From 1941 he attended the Königsberg Art Academy ; at the same time the first literary attempts were made. From 1942 Gloger took as a soldier of the Wehrmacht at the World War II in part; later he belonged to the penalty battalion 999 .

After the end of the war, Gloger completed an art degree in Frankfurt am Main and attended Roman and philosophical lectures as a guest auditor . In 1947/48 he stayed in Italy and southern France for a long time . He was arrested for participating in a dock workers' strike in Marseille and held for a while in a military prison in Strasbourg . In 1954 he moved to the GDR . 1955/56 he was a student at the literary institute "Johannes R. Becher" in Leipzig . He then lived as a painter and freelance writer until 1967 in Meiningen and from 1970 mainly in Kraatz in Brandenburg .

Gotthold Gloger's literary work consists of novels , short stories , children's and young people's books as well as screenplays for television games . He had a fondness for historical material; Criticism highlighted his attention to detail and his catchy narrative style.

Gotthold Gloger had been a member of the PEN Center of the GDR since 1954 . In 1954 he received the Heinrich Mann Prize and in 1961 the Children's Book Prize from the Ministry of Culture of the GDR.

From 1956 to 1960 he was married to the actress Christine Gloger .

He died in 2001 in Kraatz , a district of Gransee.
