Gottlieb August Lange

Gottlieb August Lange (* in the 18th century ; † 1796 ) was a German bookseller and publisher . Lange'sche Verlagbuchhandlung, founded in 1749, had its headquarters in Stralsund and branches in Berlin and Greifswald . The publisher had a wide range of offers; In addition to many music and scientific works, travelogues, fables and other things also appeared.

Important booksellers and publishers learned their trade at Lange:

  • From 1785 Georg Carl Wilhelm Rein started his apprenticeship with Lange, from where he moved to Wilhelm Heinsius in Leipzig after completing his assistant examination, and later continued to run his bookstore under his own name.
  • From 1790 Georg Andreas Reimer started his apprenticeship in the Greifswald branch. After Lange's death in 1795, Reimer first became manager of the Berlin house of Lange, before taking over the management of the bookstore at the Königliche Realschule zu Berlin in 1800 , which he later continued under his name.
  • After completing an apprenticeship in Leipzig, Ferdinand Dümmler found his first job as a journeyman at Lange's bookstore in Berlin, before running a bookstore founded by Johann Christian Dieterich in Göttingen as managing director and silent partner from around 1804 .
