Albert Friedrich Gottlob Egelhaaf (born March 1, 1848 in Gerabronn , † March 2, 1934 in Stuttgart ) was a German politician of the DVP in Württemberg .
Life
Gottlob Egelhaaf first attended the Progymnasium in Öhringen , passed the state examination in 1862 and then attended the Protestant theological seminar in Urach from 1862 to 1866 . This was followed by studies in history and classical philology at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen from 1866 to 1870 . There he was a member of the Normannia student union . In 1870 he was promoted to Dr. phil. doctorate and then worked as a high school teacher. From 1870 to 1874 he taught in Schwäbisch Hall , from 1876 to 1885 in Heilbronn and from 1885 to 1919 at the Karls-Gymnasium in Stuttgart . From 1895 he was rector there. He retired in March 1919, but remained a lecturer in history and cultural history at the TH Stuttgart from 1900 to 1925 and also in Hohenheim from 1921 to 1923 . Egelhaaf published a large number of historical writings.
Club and association activity
Egelhaaf was a member of the Württemberg Commission for State History and from 1893 a member of the committee of the German Historians' Day . From 1885 he was a member of the Württemberg History and Antiquity Association and was its chairman from 1908 to 1922.
Activity for the Protestant Church
From 1894 Egelhaaf was a member of the regional synod and regional church assembly of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg . He was also a member of the Evangelical People's League .
politics
Gottlob Egelhaaf was a member of the German Party from around 1877 , was a founding member of the Fatherland Party in Württemberg in 1917 , then first joined the Citizens' Party in 1918 , before finally becoming a member of the Württemberg DVP in 1919 . On September 28, 1919 he took over the chairmanship of the Württemberg DVP, which he only held until February 28, 1920. His successor as chairman was Theodor Bickes . Gottlob Egelhaaf was a member of the Landtag of the Free People's State of Württemberg from June 1920 to November 1926 and headed the DVP group there from 1924 to 1926. Because of a severe stroke, he had to withdraw from politics. In the 1933 Reichstag election , at the age of 85, he gave the DVP his vote.
