Theodor Bickes (born October 15, 1868 in Pirmasens , † July 9, 1933 in Stuttgart ) was a German politician of the DVP in Württemberg .

Life

Theodor Bickes was the son of the evangelical city vicar in Pirmasens Johann Georg Bickes (1841–1909) and first attended the Latin school in Grünstadt and the humanistic grammar school in Mannheim and Landau . This was followed by a degree in natural sciences at the TH Karlsruhe and a degree in economics in Munich and Heidelberg . From 1892 Bickes worked as a chemist at BASF in Ludwigshafen , then in a leading position in Brooklyn and from around 1895 in Feuerbach . In 1913 he moved to Stuttgart and joined the administration of the Württemberg Red Cross . During the First World War , he was its delegate on various fronts in charge of hospital trains . In 1918 King Wilhelm II of Württemberg appointed him court counselor. During the years of the Weimar Republic he continued to work in a leading position for the German Red Cross, which was established in 1921 .

Theodor Bickes was a member of the German Party , then in 1918 initially joined the Citizens' Party , whose business he led from 1918 to 1919, before he became a founding member of the Württemberg DVP in 1919 . As successor to Gottlob Egelhaaf , he took over the chairmanship of the Württemberg DVP on February 28, 1920, which he held until 1927. His successor as chairman was Johannes Rath . Theodor Bickes was a member of the Landtag of the Free People's State of Württemberg from June 1920 to June 1924 and a member of the Reichstag from May 1924 to September 1930 . He then withdrew from political life and limited himself to his work for the Red Cross, which he was only able to do sporadically due to a serious illness.
