Gouania is a genus from the family of Buckthorn family (Rhamnaceae), in which they are of the tribe Gouanieae is assigned. The representatives form unreinforced, climbing shrubs. The range of the species is in the tropics and subtropics of the Old and New World .
description
The species of the genus Gouania grow as evergreen , unreinforced, climbing shrubs that form tendrils and can reach heights of 20 meters. The tendrils are rolled up at the top. The leaves are alternate. They are stalked, veined three times or pinnately from the base and with entire margins or toothed. The stipules fall off early.
The flowers are polygamous . They grow in terminal or axillary zymous grapes or panicles , which can have tendrils at the base or in the lower area of the inflorescence axis. The calyx tube is short and has grown together with the ovary . The five sepals are ovate-triangular and keeled on top. The five petals are spatulate . The five stamens are fixed dorsally and are enclosed by the petals. The disc is thick, pentagonal or five-lobed, hairy or bald. The ovary is below, sunk deep in the disc, triple and forms an ovule per compartment. The styles are split to deeply split. The capsule fruits are round, depressed on both sides, triple winged and parts of the calyx are retained on them. The three compartments of the capsule separate from the capsule axis when ripe. The seeds are red-brown, glossy and obovate. The endosperm is thin.

The natural range of the approximately 50 species is in the tropics and subtropics of the Old and New World .

Gouania is a genus from the family of the Buckthorn family (Rhamnaceae), in which they are of the tribe is assigned Gouanieae and also the type forms genus of. Adolphe Brongniart established the genus in 1763, using the name and description given by Louis Claude Marie Richard . Synonyms of the genus are Retinaria Gaertn. and Pleuranthodes Weberb.
