Gouanieae are a tribe in the family of buckthorn plants (Rhamnaceae), to which six genera are assigned. Most of the representatives of the tribe grow in the tropics and subtropics of America, Asia and Africa.
description
Representatives of the tribe are mostly unreinforced, climbing shrubs, the representatives of the genus Crumenaria are tendrils forming herbaceous plants . The leaves grow alternately and are stalked and with entire margins. The vein is pinnate or palmate. The stipules usually fall off early. The ovary is subordinate and usually triple, less often two or fourfold. The nectar-forming disc is fleshy, star-shaped or pentagonal. The fruits are triple, mostly triple-lobed, elongated capsules that open lengthways, with each chamber containing a seed. The seed coat is leathery, an endosperm is present and fleshy. The outer pollen wall (exine) is grooved, network-like grooved, wrinkled or perforated.
The number of chromosomes for the genus Helinus is 2n = 22.
distribution
The representatives of the tribe grow in the tropics and subtropics of America, Asia and Africa, on Madagascar and on islands of the Indian Ocean .
