The 2007 United States gubernatorial election took place in October and November 2007. The states of Kentucky , Louisiana and Mississippi were elected . Of the three posts available for election, two were held by Republicans and one by a Democrat prior to the election . After the 2006 gubernatorial elections , 28 Democrats and 22 Republicans made up of a total of 50 governors; nothing changed at this stand.

    Kentucky

Incumbent Ernie Fletcher (Republican) competed against Democrat Steve Beshear . However, Fletcher, who was involved in various corruption scandals, was considered unpopular and, according to the numerous previous polls, Beshear clearly defeated the incumbent in the elections on November 6, 2007 with around 59 percent of the vote.

    Louisiana

The previous governor of the state, Kathleen Blanco (Democrat), closed her candidacy for another term in March 2007. Blanco was mainly criticized for its inadequate crisis management after the Hurricane Katrina disaster and at the beginning of 2007 only had approval ratings of just under 40 percent.

Louisiana’s franchise does not provide for any internal party primaries. Therefore, in the election on October 20, 2007, different candidates from the same party could run. The Republican Bobby Jindal , who had already been traded as a favorite, emerged as the winner with around 54 percent of the vote.

    Mississippi

The popular incumbent Haley Barbour (Republican) stood on November 6, 2007 against the candidate for the Democrats attorney John Arthur Eaves. According to previous polls, Barbour won the gubernatorial election in Mississippi on November 6 with approximately 58 percent of the vote.
