List of Acting Governors of the United States
The list of incumbent governors of the United States consists of all persons who are currently owner of a governorship in a US state or in a US State area are.
The governor is the state and head of government of his state or outdoor area. He is also commander in chief of the respective national and state guards . The governor manages the affairs of state in his state, has the right to pardon and has representative duties. The respective office holder plays a central role in the federal legislative process and is responsible for filling important state offices. The governors are elected directly by the population of their state or suburb. While only New Hampshire and Vermont have a two-year governor, all other governors have a four-year term.
The determination of the governor takes place everywhere today by direct elections , so not by electors as is the case with the US president . The candidate with the most votes is elected governor, so a relative majority is sufficient in all states except Louisiana , where an absolute majority of the votes is required. If no candidate reaches 50 percent of the votes there, a runoff election takes place.
In some states or suburbs, the term of office is limited so that re-election is only allowed once - immediately or after the term of office of another official - while others allow for unlimited re-election.
