The Lerautal near Leuchtenberg is a nature reserve in Leuchtenberg in the Upper Palatinate district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab in Bavaria .

location

The nature reserve is located about 1 kilometer north of Leuchtenberg. It is part of the Northern Upper Palatinate Forest Nature Park and the LSG landscape protection area within the Upper Palatinate Forest Nature Park (formerly a protection zone) .

description

The approximately 91 hectare area is a 1.5 km long section of the Lerau valley with adjacent forest areas. The paving stones with which Ostmarkstrasse was paved during construction in the 1930s are largely made from the boulders in the Leuchtenberg area. In order to preserve part of this landscape interspersed with large granite blocks, the nature reserve was designated.

Geotopes

In the nature reserve there are three geotopes that have been identified as important and valuable by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment .

Wolfslohklamm

The Leraubach, coming from the east, forms a steep slope with many blocks between Lerau and its confluence with the Luhe, and in parts the creek crosses a sea of blocks . Here in the Wolfslohklamm NW of Sargmühle (374R030) the rounded granite blocks can be found in heap. However, the name gorge is misleading because it is not a gorge, but a Kerbtal .

Devil's butter keg

The ENE devil's butter keg from Burgmühl (374R016) is a particularly striking and impressive rock tower made of granite weathered by wool sacks . All around there are more rocks weathered by wool sacks , some with impressive sacrificial tubs created by the weathering of solutions .

Granite blocks of God's hands

The granite blocks of God's hands W from Sargmühle (374R017) are several lying and strikingly large granite blocks made of Leuchtenberg granite in a forest. They are pronounced as a result of the weathering of the wool sack and have rounded shapes. One of the boulders shows very distinctive channel-shaped depressions, which, analogous to similar structures in limestone, are referred to in some literature as granite carts or pseudo carts.

Expulsion

The nature reserve was designated for the first time on June 28, 1938 and January 5, 1952, and on November 24, 1976 with an amended ordinance.
