Gregory Charles "Greg" Adams (born May 31, 1960 in Duncan , British Columbia ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and coach who played 588 games for the Philadelphia Flyers , Hartford Whalers , Washington, among others, in the course of his active career between 1977 and 1990 Capitals , Edmonton Oilers , Vancouver Canucks , Nordiques de Québec and Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League on the position of left winger .
Career
Adams played during his junior years between 1977 and 1980 for the Nanaimo Clippers in the British Columbia Junior Hockey League and the Victoria Cougars in the Western Hockey League . In the 1979/80 season he was elected to the League's First All-Star Team.
As early as September 1979, the Philadelphia Flyers from the National Hockey League had secured the services of the undrafted free agent and finally brought him into the professional field in the summer of 1980. In the long run, however, the winger could not prevail in the NHL squad and was mostly used for the farm team , the Maine Mariners in the American Hockey League , during the two seasons between 1980 and 1982 . In August 1982, the Flyers gave him with Ken Linseman and a first and third round suffrage in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft to the Hartford Whalers . In return, Philadelphia received Mark Howe and Hartford's third-round suffrage in the 1983 draft. In Hartford, Adams stayed only one season and was given in exchange for Torrie Robertson to the Washington Capitals .
The attacker settled in Washington for the next five years. In the season 1985/86 he increased to 56 points scorer after his previous best value had been 23 points. When his point production declined just as drastically in the following two years, the Capitals pushed the striker to the Edmonton Oilers . There Adams was just as unable to assert himself as at the following stations in Vancouver Canucks and Nordiques de Québec , to which he had reached via the NHL Waiver Draft in October 1989. In December Adams found himself wearing the Detroit Red Wings jersey after another transfer . After the 1989/90 season he ended his career.
In the 2000/01 season he worked for one season as the head coach of the junior team of the Cowichan Valley Capitals in the British Columbia Hockey League .
