Gregory Kuznik (often also Gregory Kužnik ; born June 12, 1978 in Prince George , British Columbia ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player with Slovenian citizenship who was most recently under contract with SHC Fassa in the Italian A1 series .
Career
Kuznik first played between 1994 and 1995 for the Royal City Outlaws in the British Columbia Hockey League and then until 1998 with the Seattle Thunderbirds in the Western Hockey League . During this time he was selected in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft by the Hartford Whalers in the seventh round in 171th place. In the summer of 1997, Kuznik's transfer rights were then overwritten by the Carolina Hurricanes , as the Whalers franchise had been relocated.
In the summer of 1998 Kuznik switched to the Hurricanes franchise and played in the following five years for their farm teams , the Beast of New Haven , Florida Everblades , Cincinnati Cyclones , Dayton Bombers , Lowell Lock Monsters , in the Minor Leagues International Hockey League , American Hockey League and ECHL . He made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2000/01 season when he played in a game for the Carolina Hurricanes.
After five years in the minor leagues, the defender moved to the British National League with the Fife Flyers for two years in July 2003 , followed by a two-year stint at SHC Fassa in the Italian SHC Fassa. In the summer of 2007, Kuznik joined the top Slovenian club HDD Olimpija Ljubljana for three years , with whom he celebrated the runner-up in the EBEL in 2008 . The Canadian remained loyal to the Slovenes until January 2010, before joining the SG Pontebba for three months . In April 2010 he finally switched to EC VSV from Austria. In summer 2012 he returned to Fassa, where he ended his career in 2013.
International
