Gregory Petsko
Gregory Anthony Petsko (born August 7, 1948 in Washington, DC ) is an American biochemist and neuroscientist at Cornell University and Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City . Together with his long-time research partner Dagmar rings Petsko is considered the founder of the scientific area of "structural euros Logie" as the cross-section area between structural biology and neurology .
Live and act
Petsko received a BA in Chemistry from Princeton University in 1970 and a Ph.D. in 1973 from David C. Phillips at Oxford University. in molecular biophysics . He worked as a postdoctoral fellow with Pierre Douzou in Paris. He received his first professorship (assistant professor) at Wayne State University School of Medicine , before moving to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as an associate professor of chemistry in 1979 , where he was finally given a full professorship. In 1990 he moved to Brandeis University as Professor of Biochemistry and Chemistry , where he was Director of the Rosenstiel Basic Medical Sciences Research Center from 1994 to 2006 and headed the Department of Biochemistry from 2008 to 2011. 2014 Petsko was a professor of neurology and neuroscience at the Weill Cornell Medical College . He also holds a professorship in medical technology (Biomedical engineering) at the Cornell University held.
Gregory Petsko has refined the methods of crystallography over many years and extended them to the time-dependent three-dimensional observation of enzyme-substrate complexes or enzyme- intermediate complexes. Today (as of 2017) he conducts basic research in the field of the relationship between proteins , protein structure and function and neurodegenerative diseases . With the help of genetic and structural biology techniques (in particular protein crystallography ) as well as structure-mediated pharmaceutical research ( drug design ) , he researches new goals for the drug treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
Petsko is married to the immunologist Laurie H. Glimcher .
