This is a list of fortified borders that have been put in place to prevent illegal migration . These are political borders .

Europe
In Europe there were fortified borders along the Iron Curtain mainly during the Cold War , and since the 1990s there has been increasing investment in fortifying borders to protect against illegal migration from the Global South .
