Research history

When Johann Friedrich Danneil first tried to document all of the major stone graves in the Altmark in 1843, he overlooked the complex in Friedrichsfleiß. It was only described by Eduard Krause and Otto Schoetensack when it was re-recorded in the early 1890s. In 2003-04, all remaining large stone graves in the Altmark were recorded and measured as a joint project of the State Office for Monument Preservation and Archeology of Saxony-Anhalt , the Johann Friedrich Danneil Museum in Salzwedel and the association “Young Archaeologists of the Altmark”.

description

It belongs to the large dolmen type . The burial mound is oval and measures 22 m × 15 m. Its height is 0.9 m. From the original grave border only six stones remain, from which a round or oval shape with an east-west diameter of 13.3 m can be reconstructed. The burial chamber is oriented east-west and originally consisted of 16 wall stones, of which 14 have survived, and five cap stones, of which four are still preserved. The largest capstone broke and fell into the chamber. It measures 2.6 m × 2.0 m × 1.2 m. The burial chamber is trapezoidal. It has a length of 7.4 m and a width of 1.8 to 2.0 m. Their height is 0.8 m.
