Grover Norquist
Grover Glenn Norquist (born October 19, 1956 in Sharon , Pennsylvania ) is a conservative activist and lobbyist . He is president of the influential advocacy group Americans for Tax Reform .
Norquist received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard University . He founded the lobby group Americans for Tax Reform in 1985 at the instigation of the then US President Ronald Reagan and since 1986 has made almost all congressmen of the Republican Party vow never to raise taxes. According to critics, this policy led to the 2011 US budget crisis . Norquist does not see this as a problem, but sees it as an "opportunity for all taxpayers". Now the government is being forced to significantly reduce state spending. He strictly rejects a possible compromise of combining large savings with even minimal tax increases.
Norquist was instrumental in the presidential candidacy of George W. Bush in 2000 .
Norquist serves on the Board of Directors of the National Rifle Association .
He lives in Washington, DC with his wife and two daughters
