The Wolf Grube was a mine in Herdorf in Rhineland-Palatinate. It was one of the most powerful mines in the Siegerland and made a significant contribution to ore mining in Hellertal . Spat and brown iron stone were mined in it .

history

Even before 1740, mining was obviously worthwhile in the “Am Wolf” area. In his description of the offices of Freusburg and Friedewald , written in 1741, the official actuary JH Lamprecht stated : "Herdorf has .... lying on the mountain next to the Selbachschen Kippel (Hohenseelbachskopf) , an Eisensteinberg, called the wolf, drifts freely."

In 1870 there was a consolidation of neighboring mine fields. The Wolf pit shaft was built in 1890 and had a diameter of 3.5 m and a depth of 710.74 m. It was not backfilled after it was closed . The total depth of the pit was 814.5 m. In 1916 it was taken over by the Krupp company. Various modernizations followed, such as As a steam engine , through which the promotion of 5000 t could be increased each month. Between October 31, 1925 and May 1, 1937 the mine was closed due to a lack of sales. The Freie Grunder Eisenwerke built the winding tower in 1936 , which was completed a year later. This was a widely visible sign of ore mining in the Hellertal. There was an association with the San Fernando mine , with which and Füssenberg Wolf formed an association one year later. In 1945 it was shut down, and the drainage system was maintained by Friedrichshütte , so that in 1952 it could be promoted again.

In 1953 the mine was attached to Erzbergbau Siegerland AG . On July 15, 1958, the production stopped and on March 31, 1962 (another source says 1964) it was finally shut down. Approx. 300 employees lost their jobs. A newly founded association wanted to preserve the headframe as a mining monument, but it did not succeed. In 1975 the tower was demolished. The total production of the mine was 1,245,682 t of iron ore .

Minerals

The mine also became famous outside of Germany for the occurrence of rare minerals, such as B. the rose spar .
