The school on Herrnstrasse (originally a primary school on Herrnstrasse ) was founded in 1882. The school building is one of the oldest still intact primary school buildings in Munich and at the same time one of the oldest school buildings in the city. It is located in the north-eastern Graggenau district of the old town .
history
The school was opened in the middle of the old town in 1882 as the second Protestant primary school in Munich after the Herzog-Wilhelm-Schule am Glockenbach built by Franz Jakob Kreuter in 1848 . The school building survived the Second World War unscathed, although half of all the houses in the city center were bombed.
After the Second World War, Catholic students were also allowed to attend school. This is also where the first 40 Deutsche Marks were handed out to the citizens of Munich after the currency reform in 1948 . In the post-war period , up to 70 students were taught in one class in shifts.
Since 1969 the school house has housed the regular school , the elementary school on Herrnstrasse and a special school, today's special educational support center in Munich Mitte 2 An der Isar. The city after-school care center and all-day care were added later. The municipal kindergarten is located on the long side of the schoolyard in the one-story pavilion from the post-war period. The special educational counseling center has also been located at Herrnstrasse 21 since 2005 .
The elementary school is the only one of this type of school in the old town , along with the Sinai elementary school in the Jewish Community Center . Although the number of pupils in this district is declining sharply, a procedure to dissolve the elementary school, which was initiated because the number of pupils had not been secured in the long term, was suspended after there were enough pupils for the grade in the 2005/06 school year.
