Gschnon ( Italian Casignano ) is a fraction of the municipality of Montan in South Tyrol . The village is located high above the Adige Valley , on the south side of the Mühlental at around 952 m above sea level. The summit of the Königswiese is located southwest of the hamlet and the Trudner Horn to the southeast . In the Middle Ages, the site belonged to the Enn-Neumarkt parish and was documented in 1348 under the name "de Casinano plebatus Egne" . 1399 is the place name with a "Toldo de Kasnan" attested in writing.

The Maria-Schnee-Kapelle (with wooden roof turret ) of the small former Capuchin monastery from the first half of the 17th century (inscribed 1632) is worth seeing ; it is a listed building and was the former summer residence of the Neumarkt mother convent.

The Gschnon area is the headwaters of the Viller Bach, a left tributary of the Etsch .
