Guido Hermann Schäf (born October 14, 1840 in Grünhainichen , † May 14, 1911 in Freiberg ) was a Saxon organ builder .

life and work

From 1862 Schäf learned organ building from Christian Friedrich Göthel , whose journeyman and master student he became. On October 1, 1870, Schäf founded his own workshop in Grünhainichen, which he relocated to Freiberg on August 28, 1879 and ran it until his death in 1911. So far, seven new organs and numerous repair, maintenance and renovations are known. The maintenance of the Freiberg organs was entrusted to him by Gottfried Silbermann , whose large organ he maintained in Freiberg Cathedral from 1889 to 1911. In 1892 he tuned the Silbermann organ in Forchheim , and in 1901 that in Nassau . In the church of Oberbobritzsch he renovated the Silbermann organ in 1898/1899 and replaced two registers , in Zöblitz he carried out maintenance work in 1893. He played a major role in the building of the organs in Grünlichtenberg , Simselwitz , Eppendorf and Gahlenz . His sphere of activity was limited to the organ landscape of Saxony .

The marriage with Laura Auguste Schäf resulted in two sons. After Schäf's death, Laura Auguste Schäf transferred the business to Alfred Schmeisser .
