Gustav Reissmann

Gustav Reissmann (born March 17, 1887 in Neustadt near Coburg ; † January 22, 1954 there ) was a German sculptor .

Life

His parents were the bosses Carl Moritz Reissmann and Maria Ernestine geb. Mandrel. After primary school, Reißmann attended the industrial and trade school in Neustadt. At Easter 1905 he went to Dresden with Edmund Moeller , where he attended the arts and crafts school for three years until he was accepted into the Academy of Fine Arts in 1908 . As a result of the First World War , from which he returned as a lieutenant , he first had to cure a lung disease before he could set up his own studio in Dresden. Here he worked artistically and economically successfully until he lost all his belongings in the air raids on Dresden on February 13, 1945 and returned to his hometown penniless. In Neustadt he mainly created figures for the domestic toy industry as well as small sculptures and reliefs.
