Gut Aiderbichl runs animal sanctuaries and goes back to the parent company in Henndorf am Wallersee . The facilities in Henndorf, Deggendorf and Iffeldorf can be visited .

The operators of Gut Aiderbichl see the sanctuaries as a refuge for animals that have been rescued from emergency situations. Among other things, neglected, orphaned or slaughtered animals are bought up. However, according to the company, the primary goal is to create understanding between humans and animals in a protected environment. The personal relationship to animals and the ethical principles in dealing with animals should be reflected on.

history

Aiderbichl mean allegedly from the Celtic and Old High German translated Fire Hill ( Ayd - fire , mountain, this Bühel - Hill ).

In 2001 the previously vacant Henndorfer Hof was renovated, and the number of animals has been growing ever since. Most of them are farm animals such as horses, cattle or pigs, but also former circus animals. In 2001 alone, Michael Aufhauser reached 100 million people with his animal protection campaigns.

In 2002 Gut Aiderbichl was instrumental in ensuring that animals are included as co-creatures in the Salzburg state constitution. On March 9th, 2002 Michael Aufhauser performed for the first time in the Musikantenstadl . In the same year a "dog meadow" was founded in Salzburg.

In 2003 the Eurovision program Christmas started on Gut Aiderbichl .

In 2005 the television film " A Paradise for Animals " with Francis Fulton Smith, Herbert Fux and Susanne Michel was broadcast based on the founding story of Gut Aiderbichl (ARD, ORF).

In 2006 the ARD documentary series "The Animal Rescuers of Aiderbichl" (20 episodes, 2 seasons) started. In December 2006 the second visitable Gut Aiderbichl Deggendorf estate was opened in Eichberg near Deggendorf. Horses and donkeys, pigeons and cats live there.

In 2009 Gut Aiderbichl took over 40 former laboratory chimpanzees who lived on the site of the former safari park in Gänserndorf at the request of the Republic of Austria and the State of Lower Austria . After completion of the series of experiments (some of the chimpanzees were infected with HIV and hepatitis), the chimpanzees were supposed to be rehabilitated in the Gänserndorf safari park , which became insolvent.

In 2010 a Gut Aiderbichl was established in France for more than 100 rescued horses.

In 2011 the case of the runaway cow Yvonne was picked up by the media and social networks and attracted international attention to Gut Aiderbichl. On September 6, 2011, large outdoor enclosures were opened for the former laboratory chimpanzees.

Gut Aiderbichl in Iffeldorf

In 2012, the third estate was opened to the public in Iffeldorf in the Weilheim-Schongau district in Upper Bavaria . 300 animals live here, including cattle, horses, pigs, dogs, cats and a former circus camel.

In 2014, a total of 5600 animals were kept on all facilities.

In 2015, a parrot house and a fox enclosure (4000 m²) were opened on the site of the former Gänserndorf safari park.

In 2016, over 300 people were employed at the 26 sanctuaries in Austria , Germany , Switzerland and France , some of them in the low-wage segment. Around 16 million euros were spent on running costs, 450,000 euros of which were veterinary costs. Gut Aiderbichl has 160 permanent employees, 90 industrial helpers and 30 volunteers.

In 2017, a third public dog meadow was built in cooperation with the Henndorf community.

In 2018 Gut Aiderbichl opened an office in Zurich. Accommodation for 50 cows was created in Henndorf. The Ballermann Ranch was bequeathed to Gut Aiderbichl .

Gut Aiderbichl Foundation Austria

In 1999 Michael Aufhauser and his wife Irene Florence Aufhauser founded the "Aufhauser Private Foundation". In 2003 the name of the foundation was changed to “Gut Aiderbichl Privatstiftung”. The foundation is non-profit and aims to promote the general public in the field of animal welfare in intellectual, cultural, ethical and material terms.

Gut Aiderbichl was covered in many cases by fading. In 1997, the then 45-year-old Michael Aufhauser married an 82-year-old millionaire, whose fortune and property he inherited after her death in 2002. Over the years, Aiderbichl continued to inherit the assets and real estate of rich, old animal lovers.

According to his own statement (March 2017) “the three visitable goods in Henndorf near Salzburg (= Gut Aiderbichl), Iffeldorf near Munich and Deggendorf are mainly financed by admission (sums), merchandising and sponsorships (annual tickets sold). The 23 (other) foundation courts are completely dependent on donations, bequests and bequests. "

Prominent advocates include Uschi Glas , Michael and Ralf Schumacher , Thomas Gottschalk and Patrick Lindner . This results in a desired media presence that is also maintained through television productions.

Inheritance affair

In April 2015 it became known that the public prosecutor was investigating an administrator of Gut Aiderbichl. In the summer of 2010, he is said to have persuaded a wealthy animal lover, then 87 years old, to sign a will in favor of the Gut Aiderbichl private foundation as sole heir. According to the foundation, it is an amount of 1.3 million euros. The signatory was "not clear about the content of the will". In April 2017, the federal states of Upper Austria and Salzburg filed an inheritance suit with the Salzburg Regional Court .

On July 23, 2015, the Austrian public prosecutor's office for business and corruption searched the private and business premises of Gut Aiderbichl at several locations on suspicion of serious commercial fraud with damage in excess of 5 million euros. In February 2016, the Hagen public prosecutor's office confirmed that it had also initiated an investigation into suspected fraud in Germany. In March 2016, another suspected case of fraud became known in Austria.

In parallel proceedings at the regional court in Ried im Innkreis, a former estate manager of Gut Aiderbichl and his sister were sentenced to imprisonment and fines after they had damaged an estate at Gut Aiderbichl by several hundred thousand euros at the expense of Aiderbichl. The judgment became final on November 2, 2017.

December 2018: The Public Prosecutor's Office for Corruption (WKStA) has now closed its investigations in connection with a possibly illegitimate inheritance in favor of the Salzburger Tiergnadenhof Gut Aiderbichl. The accusation that donations were used inappropriately has not been substantiated either. All donations were used as intended.

The civil proceedings for the will mentioned above ended in April 2019 with a settlement according to which Gut Aiderbichl has to pay 200,000 euros each to the federal states of Upper Austria and Salzburg.
