Sir Ernest Guy Richard Lloyd, 1st Baronet DSO DL ( August 7, 1890 , † 1987 ) was a Scottish politician.

Life

Lloyd was born in 1890 as the first child of officer Ernest Thomas Lloyd and his wife Ethel Mary . He attended Rossall School in Fleetwood , Lancashire , and then studied at Keble College of Oxford University , where he in 1913 a Bachelor and 1919 a master's degree earned. On March 5, 1918, he married Helen Kynaston Greg . The marriage resulted in five children, Pamela , Irene (* 1919), Margaret (* 1920), Elizabeth (* 1925) and Richard (* 1928). In 1921 Lloyd served as director of the Jas Chadwick and Brothers company in Bolton . Ten years later, he assumed a senior position at J&P Coats in Glasgow and Paisley . In 1953 Lloyd was knighted and used as Deputy Lieutenant of Dunbartonshire . On July 23, 1960 he was given the hereditary title of Baronet , of Rhu in the County of Dumbarton.

Lloyd initially embarked on a military career. During the First World War he served in the King's Shropshire Light Infantry with the rank of major . In 1917 he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order . In the 1930s Lloyd was used in the 5th Loyal Regiment and the Royal Warwickshire Regiment.

Political career

Since 1930 the unionist Douglas Douglas-Hamilton held the mandate of the constituency of East Renfrewshire . After inheriting the title of nobility from his late father and receiving a seat in the House of Lords as a peer , Douglas-Hamilton had to surrender his House of Commons mandate . For this reason, by-elections were scheduled in the constituency of East Renfrewshire in 1940, to which Lloyd was set up as the successor to Douglas-Hamilton for the Unionists. Lloyd clearly prevailed against Annie Maxton , the candidate of the Independent Labor Party , and subsequently moved into the British House of Commons for the first time. In the following general election in 1945 , 1950 , 1951 and 1955 , he held his mandate. In the general election in 1959 , Lloyd did not run again. The mandate went to his party colleague Betty Anderson . A total of 823 contributions by Lloyd are recorded in Parliament.
