The Gyronde is a mountain river in France that runs in the Hautes-Alpes department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region . It rises under the name Torrent du Glacier Blanc in the Écrins National Park , near the Refuge Glacier Blanc refuge , in the municipality of Vallouise-Pelvoux . It generally drains south-east, changing its name to Torrent de Saint-Pierre and Gyr , until it takes its right tributary Onde near Vallouise and takes the definitive name Gyronde from the combination of Gyr and Onde . After a total of 23 kilometers, it finally flows into the Durance as a right tributary at the municipal boundary of Les Vigneaux and L'Argentière-la-Bessée .

Hydrology

Due to power plants in the source streams, the original glacier character, with rising or falling water levels depending on the amount of sunlight, is hardly noticeable. The water level fluctuations therefore result from the operation of the power plant. The Gyronde and its source rivers represent demanding white water in the middle and upper range of the white water difficulty scale and are therefore often navigated.
