Vallouise is a village and a former French commune of 750 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Hautes-Alpes in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur . It belonged to the Arrondissement of Briançon and the canton of L'Argentière-la-Bessée .

With effect from January 1, 2017, the former municipalities of Pelvoux and Vallouise were merged into a Commune nouvelle called Vallouise-Pelvoux and have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Pelvoux.

The municipality of Vallouise bordered

The mountaineering village of Ailefroide, which belongs to the municipality of Vallouise, is at 1506  m . east of Pic Coolidge . From there, a dangerous, rubble-covered footpath leads over Glacier Noir to this 3774-high elevation. At the glacier or at the Pré de Madame Carle with a hut called Refuge Cézanne , the road coming from Ailefroide ends with a large parking lot. The winter sports area of Pelvoux and Vallouise contains 14 slopes with a total length of 34 kilometers. Elevations in the district are called:
