Ernst-Frieder Kratochwil (* 1944 in Pleismar ) is a German dramaturge , writer and radio play author .

Live and act

Ernst-Frieder Kratochwil was born as the son of a Protestant pastor and grew up in Lodersleben . After the wall was built and immediately before graduating from high school, he was evicted from Schönebeck for political reasons. Numerous submissions from the father finally made a study of Protestant theology a. a. possible in Naumburg . Since 1967 he has written articles for the features of various newspapers and magazines such as Neue Zeit , Theater der Zeit , Die Weltbühne and Das Andere Theater . The state examination in Greifswald was followed in 1968/69 by a master class with Wolfgang Heinz at the Deutsches Theater Berlin , to which Ernst-Frieder Kratochwil had applied on the recommendation of Adolf Dresen with an essay on the two different heavens in Goethe's Faust I and Faust II .

Ernst-Frieder Kratochwil then worked as a production assistant in the Oberspree cable factory in Berlin, as a theater director in Magdeburg , Neustrelitz and Zittau , as a press assistant in the VEB Robur-Werke, as head dramaturge in Prenzlau and as a book seller in East Berlin.

With the support of Peter Gugisch , whom Ernst-Frieder Kratochwil and Adolf Dresen had known since his student theater days in Greifswald, he began working as an audio dramaturge for the GDR radio in 1976 . He devoted himself to radio play facilities for plays by Sternheim , Barlachs and Matusches . In 1980 his first own radio play The Clear Word of Scripture was published - a dispute between Martin Luther and Thomas Müntzer , which has seen numerous repetitions and European adaptations with great success up to the present day. For example, through Werner Grunow's guest productions in Finland and Norway or also in Italy and Romania.

The original staging of the radio play by Joachim Staritz was not broadcast in 1980, because the direction and cast conception of Luther placed the figure of Luther in a clearly critical light. The official Luther honor due for his 500th birthday in 1983 was, however, endeavored to upgrade the previous image of Luther, and therefore the text was staged again by the director Wolfgang Schonendorf .

In 1982 Ernst-Frieder Kratochwil switched to freelance work as an author, dramaturge and director. From January 1990 to July 2009 he worked as a full-time teacher at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin , including for the history of puppet theater. Since then he has been a freelance writer again.
