Life

Gyurme Künsang Wanggyel was born in Kham in 1930. His father was the 10th Minling Thrichen Rinpoche Gyurme Döndrub Wanggyel and his mother was Dawa Drölma. Among his teachers were Jamyang Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö , " Shechen Kongtrül" Pema Drime Legpe Lodrö , Minling Chung Rinpoche , Minling Khen Rinpoche , and the former Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche. Gyurme Künsang Wanggyel spent more than 14 years of his life in retreat . He is considered the Tertön of the Nyingmapa and a direct emanation of the Padmasambhava . Due to the political situation in Tibet, Gyurme Künsang Wanggyel was not enthroned in his local Mindröl-Ling monastery. Like many other lamas of his generation, he fled the People's Liberation Army from Tibet to India in 1959 . In 1962 he was enthroned in Indian exile in the Zangdokpalri ( Kalimpong ) monastery by Düdjom Rinpoche and Dilgo Khyentse as the 11th Minling Thrichen. In 1976 he moved to Dehradun to the newly founded Mindröl-Ling monastery there. As Penor Rinpoche's successor , he was responsible for the administrative tasks of the Nyingmapa in the Tibetan government in exile after 2001 . Gyurme Künsang Wanggyel was generally regarded as one of the greatest Tibetan masters.

His daughter Khandro Rinpoche (Tshering Peldrön; * 1967) was recognized by the 16th Karmapa Rangjung Rigpe Dorje at the age of two as the reincarnation of the great Dakini of Tshurphu - Khandro Urgyen Tsomo - who was one of the most famous masters of her time. Khandro Urgyen Tsomo was the spiritual companion of the 15th Karmapa Khakyab Dorje (1871-1922) and an incarnation of the Yeshe Tshogyel .
