history

Zwittermühl belonged to the Schwarzenberg dominion until 1546 , the southern part of which was ceded to the Kingdom of Bohemia after the Schmalkaldic War . The settlement was created in connection with the tin mining around the mining town of Platten . The name Zwittermühl is derived from a stamp mill whose foundation walls are still in place today.

The first mining families settled in the Schwarzwassertal near Zwittermühl around 1520, who looked for ores using soap work. The residents who remained Protestant had to accept the Catholic faith or leave the country after the Thirty Years' War. Several residents crossed the border into the neighboring Electorate of Saxony and were among the founders of Johanngeorgenstadt .

In the 16th century there was a lot of mining going on here. In 1700 a new paint mill was built in Zwittermühl , which Johann Christoph Hanickl took over. Zwittermühl was parish to the Church of St. Laurentius in Platten. At the end of the 18th century, the Wunderkaplan gave Father Adalbert Hahn religious instruction in the village. In 1847 the place had 29 houses with 299 inhabitants, including 3 Protestant families, 1 school under the patronage of the authorities, 1 hunter's house, 1 mill and 1 silver mine ( Gottholdstolln ).

Until the patronage was abolished, Zwittermühl in the kk Montanwalddominium Joachimsthal was under the administration of the kk Bergoberamt Joachimsthal. In the course of the Bohemian administrative reform of 1849, the amalgamation of several districts resulted in the "municipality of Breitenbach", which belonged to the district administration of St. Joachimsthal and the judicial district of Platten .

All houses in the small community were demolished after the German population was driven out after the Second World War. In 2004 a hunting lodge was built at the location of the former school on the road to Irrgang . North of Zwittermühl on the old road to Rozhraní ( Halbmeil ), the St. Nepomuk chapel was rebuilt in 2013 directly on the Bohemian-Saxon border .
