Smolné Pece (German Pechöfen ) was a district of the municipality Potůčky ( Breitenbach ) in Okres Karlovy Vary , Czech Republic .
geography
Today's desert is located in the Bohemian Ore Mountains southwest of Potůčky between the river Breitenbach and the German-Czech border. The small settlement extended over about 720-790 m height and consisted of ten houses. Pechöfen also had a small clearing about 700 m south.
history
The place got its name from the pitch ovens with which part of the population earned their living.
The area was probably settled around 1497 when Wilhelm von Tettau sold a piece of forest in the neighboring Jugel to pitch workers. After the Schmalkaldic War , the area with the southern part of the Schwarzenberg district office came under the Bohemian Crown in 1546 . In 1611, the pharmacist Laurenz Bergkau, who came from Magdeburg, ran the first cobalt mill here on the Grenzbach ( Pechöferbach ) for the production of blue paint. In 1622 he was awarded another paint mill at Breitenbach. Minor mining for iron, silver and tin followed later. In 1713 the Emperor Karl-Stolln blossomed into pitch ovens. After the decline of the mining industry, the inhabitants lived from lacework or hired themselves in the area. In the immediate vicinity of the confluence of the Pechöferbach ( Smolný potok ) in the Jugelbach was the excursion restaurant Felsenkeller .
After 1945 the German population was expelled and the place fell into desolation. However, here, not far from the important Bismuth Object 01 in the neighboring Johanngeorgenstadt , exploration work for uranium was carried out.
