The Hämelbach (also Hämelbachgrabe) is a 4.5 kilometer long right tributary of the Ilfis in the upper Emmental .

Names

The brook is first mentioned in 1371 and 1470 as Hemmelbach and Hemelbach . He is still referred to as Hemmelbach in a document in 1543, in 1710 in the March book by Samuel Bodmer and in 1747 in the tenth volume of the General Helvetic, Eydgenössische, or Schweitzerischen Lexicon . In the years 1472 and 1682 the name Hämellbach can be found in documents .

The Hämelbach rises a little below the Turner on its northwest slope at about 1142  m above sea level. M.

From here it flows southwards between the Risisegg in the west and the Glicheberg in the east. It forms the border between the cantons of Bern and Lucerne and flows into the Iflis at the hamlet of Hämelbach .

Tributaries

25 short and nameless streams flow into the Hämelbach.

It is reported that gold is being panned at the Hämelbach.
