history

Memorial for JG Hänisch

Hänischmühe was founded in 1772 by the Jonsdorf master bleacher Johann Gottlieb Hänisch (1739–1810). Hänisch, who had already set up a bleaching facility on Jonsdorfer Flur in 1760, set up a second company with bleaching gardens in a swamp forest area on Bertsdorfer Flur, after more and more yarn for bleaching had to be sent to Bohemia for bleaching during the heyday of the Upper Lusatian linen weaving mill and his flourishing Jonsdorfer business did not receive the orders could handle more. Together with his son and four sons-in-law, Hänisch ran the company, which bleached linen yarn for 5,000 shock a year. A colony developed around the bleach.

At the funeral of their father Johann Gottlob Schneider in 1840, the musician brothers Friedrich , Johann and Gottlieb Schneider suggested that the unnamed colony be named after its founder. Hänischen's last daughter who was still alive joined this wish and suggested the name Hänisches Mühe . On September 24, 1840, the colony on the Bleiche was named Hänischmühe . The Gasthof Weißer Stein was established in 1869 . In 1890 the narrow-gauge railway from Zittau to Jonsdorf was built south of Hänischmühe. This also began the tourist development of the place.

In 1897 Julius Langes Leinen-Industrie AG bought the bleaching facility in Hänischmühe. In 1919 the bleaching facility was incorporated into Hermann Schubert's textile factory in Zittau, to which it belonged until the expropriation in 1945. On January 1, 1957, the settlement of Hänischmühe was changed from Bertsdorf to Jonsdorf.
