The Häusensberg near Rothwesten in the north Hessian district of Kassel is 300.7  m above sea level. NHN high elevation of the West Hessian depression belonging to the West Hessian mountains . The Rothwesten public observatory is on the summit .

The Häusensberg is located in the municipality of Fuldatal above the district of Rothwesten, which extends east to south around the elevation, and south of the Winterbüren estate of the Barons Waitz von Eschen . The aspen tributary Höllgraben flows past to the west .

Natural allocation

The Häusensberg lies in the main natural unit group West Hessisches Bergland (No. 34) and in the main unit West Hessian Depression (343) on the border of the subunits Hofgeismarer Rötsenke (343.4) in the north and Kassel Basin (343.3) in the south. In a north-easterly direction, the landscape leads over to the nearby Reinhardswald subunit (370.4), which belongs to the Weser-Leine-Bergland .

Rothwesten public observatory

Until 1912 there was a lookout tower on the Häusensberg , which suddenly collapsed and was not rebuilt. In 1959 the construction of a new observation tower began, on the top of which the Rothwesten public observatory was set up in 1963 . The observatory can be visited on guided tours.

Hiking and traffic

The district road  38 runs south past the H closenessberg and branches off in Rothwesten from the state road  3232 ( Holzhausen –Rothwesten– Simmershausen ; in Rothwesten called Reinhardswaldstraße ) and leads west-northwest to Hohenkirchen . For example, starting on the residential area street Friedrich-Engels-Straße in the west-northwest of Rothwesten, which connects the two streets , and then on the spur road Am Häusensberg , which turns into a field and then a forest path, the Häusensberg can be hiked. The Kassel-Steig hiking trail leads south and east past the elevation .
