Håkon Kyllingmark

Håkon Kyllingmark (born January 19, 1915 in Honningsvåg , Nordkapp , Finnmark ; † August 12, 2003 in Vågan ) was a Norwegian politician of the conservative Høyre and, among other things, a long-time member of the Storting , defense minister and transport minister .

Life

After attending school, Kyllingmark entered the officer candidate school ( Befalskole ) in 1934 and then graduated from the Air Force Training School ( Flyvåpenets Speiderskole ) in 1937 . During the Second World War , he did his military service against the German Wehrmacht in 1940 and 1943 to 1945 .

After the end of the war, between 1945 and 1965 he was a dispatcher in the wholesale company H. Kyllingmark A / S, which his family owned, and was involved in home defense ( Heimevernet ) from 1947 to 1953 as major and head of the home defense district of North Helgeland . In the early 1950s he also began his political career when he was a member of Svolvær's municipal council between 1952 and 1963 .

In 1954, Kyllingmark was elected for the first time as a candidate for the Høyre as a member of the Storting, in which he represented the constituency of Nordland until 1981 . During this time he was also the second vice chairman of Høyre between 1958 and 1970.

On August 28, 1963, Minister of State John Lyng appointed him Secretary of Defense in his government after the Kings Bay Affair , which resigned on September 25, 1963 after just under a month.

After the formation of the Borten coalition government consisting of Høyre, Senterpartiet (Sp), Venstre (V) and Kristelig Folkeparti (KrF) under Minister of State Per Borten on October 12, 1965, Kyllingmark became Minister of Transport and held this ministerial office until the end of Borten ’s term on October 17. March 1971. He was later from 1973 to 1981 chairman of the Høyre parliamentary group in Storting.

Most recently, after leaving Storting, Kyllingmark was a member of the supervisory board of the Norwegian central bank ( Norges Bank ) between 1981 and 1991 .

He has received several awards for his many years of service and was among other things commander of the Order of Saint Olav . He also received the Croix de guerre 1939–1945 .
