Héctor Thomas ( Héctor Thomas Martínez; born October 10, 1938 in El Callao , Bolívar , † December 23, 2008 in Caracas ) was a Venezuelan athlete who had his greatest successes in the decathlon .

At the 1959 Pan American Games in Chicago he was fourth in the decathlon. In 1960 he came in this discipline at the Olympic Games in Rome on the 20th place and won the Ibero-American Games.

At the South American Athletics Championships in Lima in 1961 , he won bronze in the shot put . In 1962 he won gold in pentathlon and silver in the shot put at the Central American and Caribbean Games and defended his title at the Ibero-American Games.

In 1963 he won bronze in the decathlon and in the 4 x 100 meter relay at the Pan American Games in São Paulo . At the South American Championships in Cali , he won the decathlon, long jump and javelin throw .

At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964, he broke off the decathlon after the seventh discipline.

In 1965 he defended his decathlon title at the South American Championships in Rio de Janeiro and took silver in the 100 m and long jump.

In the decathlon he won silver at the Pan American Games in 1967 in Winnipeg, gold at the South American Championships in 1969 in Quito, bronze at the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1970 and gold at the South American Championships in Lima in 1971 .

He set his personal best in the decathlon of 7,340 points on August 16, 1964 in Caracas .
