Hédi Mabrouk ( Arabic الهادي المبروك, DMG al-Hādī al-Mabrūk ; * April 7, 1921 ; † June 16, 2000 in Sidi Bou Saïd ) was a Tunisian diplomat and politician of the Socialist Destur Party .

Life

Mabrouk was an employee of the colonial administration of the Protectorate of Tunisia in French North Africa . After Tunisia gained independence from France on March 20, 1956, he was governor of the Kasserine governorate from 1957 to 1958 and the governor of the Gafsa governorate from 1959 to 1960 , before serving as governor of the Kef governorate from 1960 to 1961 .

After several other posts in the government of Tunisia, Mabrouk succeeded Abdesselem Ben Ayed as ambassador to France on December 26, 1973 and held this office until October 6, 1986, whereupon Mustapha Zaanouni succeeded there. In 1980, in this role, he was one of the co-founders of the Paris- based Institut du monde arabe (IMA) with other Arab ambassadors in France . Shortly before he was recalled as ambassador, he was appointed Foreign Minister in the government of Prime Minister Rachid Sfar on September 15, 1986 to succeed Beji Caid Essebsi . He kept this office in the brief government of Prime Minister Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali from October 2, 1987 to November 7, 1987 and was then replaced by Mahmoud Mestiri .
