history

The Hôtel de Lauzun was built between 1650 and 1658 according to the plans of the architect Louis Le Vau for Carles Gruyn, Seigneur des Bordes. The inscription "Hôtel de Lausun 1657" is placed on black marble above the portal . The painting of the rooms comes from the artists Sébastien Bourdon , Charles Le Brun , Eustache Le Sueur and Pierre Patel . In 1682, Antonin Nompar de Caumont , Duke of Lauzun, bought the building that was named after him.

The poet Charles Baudelaire lived from 1843 to 1845 in a small attic apartment in the house “with a view of the inner courtyard”. His friend Théophile Gautier lived in the same house.

Théophile Gautier and Jacques-Joseph Moreau founded the “ Club des Hachichins ” there in 1844 , which included Charles Baudelaire , Alexandre Dumas , Eugène Delacroix , Honoré de Balzac and Gérard de Nerval .

As part of a monthly meeting with the painter Fernand Boissard , who also lived in the Hôtel de Lauzun, the members of the club, under the guidance of Dr. Moreau experiments with hashish himself .

The Hôtel de Lauzun has been owned by the City of Paris since 1928, which it uses for official receptions. The renovated magnificent rooms can be visited.
