H2Yacht

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An H2Yacht is both the name of the renovating company and the name for their tugboat equipped with fuel cells and electric propulsion . The two boats built so far serve as excursion boats on the Elbe and its tributaries around Hamburg .

drive

The boat is powered by electric motors that get their energy from a polymer electrolyte fuel cell. This used as the oxidizing agent is hydrogen and as a reducing agent the oxygen from the air. The electrical current produced in this way is regulated with the help of a DC voltage converter, temporarily stored in a traction battery and drives the electric motors .

The required hydrogen is carried on the boat in high-pressure tanks with up to 350  bar . Since the fuel cells work at relatively low pressure, a pressure reducer is built into the hydrogen tanks .

The boat has two backup batteries in order to avoid load fluctuations on the fuel cell and to be able to cover a certain distance in the event of a lack of fuel. A control unit is built into the DC / DC converter, which processes the captain's thrust commands and controls the motor accordingly.

Refueling

The two hydrogen tanks on each boat can be removed from the boat and filled at hydrogen filling stations.

The tanks have a standard tank connection (TN-1), which is also compatible with the TK-15 and TK-16 tank connections of the car hydrogen filling stations, and can be filled with 200 bar or 350 bar. They hold a volume of either 26  l (can be handled by one person) or 39 l (can be handled by two people).

The tanks can also remain inside the boat when refueling, but this is only rarely possible as there are hardly any hydrogen filling stations in the immediate vicinity of the water.
