background

The HTC 7 Pro is one of the first series of smartphones , which with the Microsoft - operating system Windows Phone 7 feature. In contrast to the other Windows Phone 7 smartphones made by HTC Corporation , the HTC 7 Pro was only introduced in early 2011. The HTC 7 Pro is designed as a business smartphone because it has a pull-out QWERTY keyboard and a more powerful battery (1500 mAh). Compared to the HTC HD7 in particular , a touchscreen with the same resolution ( WVGA ) but a smaller diagonal was installed. Microsoft places strict requirements on the makes on which Windows Phone 7 is to run, which, among other things, serve quality assurance. At the same time, however, this leads to far-reaching restrictions in terms of openness for application developments and individual manufacturer designs.

Launch

The HTC 7 Pro was first shipped in Germany in the first quarter of 2011.

technology

Chipset

The hardware basis is a Snapdragon chipset of the type QSD8250, which was already installed in the predecessor HTC HD2 . The Scorpion processor core clocked at 1 GHz is comparable to the ARM Cortex-A8 core and is supported by 576 MB of RAM . The Adreno 200 chip from Qualcomm , which is permanently installed on the circuit board and supports the OpenGL ES 2.0 and Direct3D standards, takes over graphic calculations .
The QSD8250 chipset represents the first generation of the Snapdragon product line and supports several cellular standards, including GPRS , EDGE , UMTS and HSPA .
In addition, all Snapdragon chipsets contain processing units for decoding HDTV with a resolution of 720p and a GPS receiver.

Storage

Unlike other models, such as the Samsung Omnia 7 , the HTC 7 Pro does not use a soldered NAND memory , but an internal, not freely accessible SD card slot; an 8 GB SDHC memory card is located here . The internal ROM memory with a capacity of 512 MB is combined with the SD card in a JBOD network to form a memory; Within the operating system, it is no longer possible to differentiate between ROM and SD card.

In the meantime, however, a tinkerer from the online community PocketPC.ch has apparently found a way to install a larger SD card. Such experiments have already been successful with the HTC HD7 and, according to a video that was posted on YouTube , should be possible there without losing the warranty.

camera

The integrated camera can take photos with a resolution of up to 5 megapixels (2,560 × 1,920 pixels). An active pixel sensor (also known as a "CMOS sensor") is used to measure the light . The camera is supported by a dual LED flash. The camera can also record films with a resolution of up to 720p (1280 × 720 pixels). There are also various recording programs available to the user, including candlelight , landscape and portrait .

Radio links

The HTC 7 Pro communicates wirelessly via the WLAN standard 802.11 b / g / n , GPRS , EDGE , UMTS , HSPA and Bluetooth 2.1. An A-GPS antenna is also installed.
The Bluetooth profiles A2DP , AVRCP , HFP, HSP and PBAP are supported.

Radio standard Data rate (gross) frequency
WLAN IEEE 802.11 b 11 Mbit / s 2.4 GHz
WLAN IEEE 802.11 g 54 Mbit / s 2.4 GHz

HSDPA 7.2 Mbit / s 900/2100 MHz
HSUPA 2.0 Mbit / s 900/2100 MHz
GPRS 114 kbit / s 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
EDGE 560 kbit / s 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
Bluetooth 2.1 2.1 Mbit / s 2402-2480 MHz

service

The HTC 7 Pro is the only device with the Windows Phone 7 operating system from HTC Corporation with a physical keyboard . The keyboard extends to the left of the screen . In particular, the home screen of Windows Phone 7 is designed for a vertical position of the screen . To use the physical keyboard, the HTC 7 Pro has to be held sideways, which makes it difficult to use the incorrectly oriented menus. This shortcoming has since been criticized in several editorial tests.
