Habermann ( Czech Habermannův mlýn ) is a Czech / German / Austrian historical film from 2009. It tells the story of the entrepreneur August Habermann during the Second World War and is based on the novel Habermann's Mill ( Habermannův mlýn ) by Josef Urban .

The young entrepreneur August Habermann lived as a respected citizen in a small village in northern Moravia in the early 1930s . His family has been running the largest mill and sawmill in the area for four generations. When he marries his pretty wife Jana, a “ half-Jew ” who grew up in a monastery, everyone is happy with the couple. But the peaceful times come to an abrupt end: The Germans bring the Sudetenland " home into the Reich ". At first only August's younger brother Hans was enthusiastic about National Socialism. But soon a deep rift runs through the entire church. The scheming SS-Sturmbannführer Koslowski rules the village with a perfidious mixture of arbitrariness and violence, and he harasses Habermann's wife Jana heavily. The apolitical Habermann suddenly gets caught between all fronts - the Nazis consider him a friend of the Czechs, for the Czechs he is suddenly no longer a citizen, but a hated occupier.
The story is told from 1937 to 1945.

“This seditious film is not so much about developing an analytical or at least tragic understanding of history, it is all about the oldest of all narrative tricks: that you just have to let go of the mob and a hero will stand up. Nobody noticed with 'Habermann' that this would have to be of interest in and of itself, because the unleashed masses document the history of the makers best. Because in the crowd scene the set-up cinema comes to itself, even if the lack of spirit becomes almost palpable. 'Habermann' gives the appearance of controversial history cinema, but is intellectually and aesthetically below any appropriate level. "

The year of production was 2009 and the theatrical release on November 25, 2010. The film has been available on DVD and Blu-ray since June 2011.
