Hafizullah Khyal

Ustad Hafizullah Khyal (* 1931 in Kabul ) is an Afghan composer and singer based in New York . His compositions have been interpreted by many well-known Afghan singers such as Mohamed Hussein Sarahang or Ahmad Zahir , and his music (composition and singing) has received several awards.

Life

Hafizullah Khyal received early education in his hometown. His special musical talent was discovered at the age of seven. At the age of nineteen he made his first appearance on Radio Afghanistan . He was a student of Ustad Salamat Ali Khan , the well-known maestro of Indian classical music, and so his style is characterized by a wide range of techniques.

Ustad Khyal performed in the cities of Bhopal , Calcutta , Mumbai , Delhi , Karachi , Lahore , Lucknow and Madras , as well as in Bulgaria , China , Iran , Iraq , Japan , England , France , Germany , North Korea , Poland , Russia and in the Czechoslovakia on. In 1976 he was invited by UNESCO to the Eight Nations Music Theater, where he was awarded the award for best singer .

Ustad Khyal was a permanent member of the music department of UNESCO and musical director of Radio Television Afghanistan. He was also the only musician to have received a medal of honor from the last king of Afghanistan, Zahir Shah .

He currently teaches in New York City, where he continues to perform as a musician.
