Hagar Schon Aaronson Shrieve (common short form: HSAS ) was a super group consisting of the singer Sammy Hagar , the guitarist Neal Schon , the bassist Kenny Aaronson and the drummer Michael Shrieve . The group released an album entitled Through the Fire , the songs of which were all recorded during two concerts in San Francisco , and which included a cover version of Procol Harum's hit A Whiter Shade of Pale .
founding
After Journey had released their album Frontiers in the spring of 1983 , guitarist Neal Schon decided to start a project with Sammy Hagar. Hagar had released his album Three Lock Box in late 1982 and then traveled to Africa for a three month safari vacation .
Already and Hagar started looking for other musicians to put together a band. In an interview he gave in mid-1983, Schon said: Sammy and I get along very well. We're already working on a record together and it's gonna be a real killer! Right now we have David Carmassi, who has already played drums for Sammy, and we are still looking for a bass player. We worked a bit with Tom Petersson, but I think he has other responsibilities.
Already went from February to September 1983 Journey to the Frontiers - tour and then began working with Hagar again. At this point, Carmassi had already left the project. Then Michael Shrieve, who had already played with Neal Already in the Carlos Santana band in the early 1970s, was offered the job behind the drums, and Kenny Aaronson, who had played in the group " Foghat ", was won as bassist .
Through the fire
To record the album, the group played several concerts for the Westwood One radio network from November 9-21, 1983. Two of these concerts, namely those on November 14th and 15th in San José / California , were recorded and broadcast by MTV . These recordings have been broadcast at least once but have not yet been published. The recordings from San Francisco used for the album were then processed in the studio, the audience noises were removed. The album was completed in December 1983 and released in 1984; it reached number 42 on the Billboard 200 .
The album's only single released in 1984 was the cover of A Whiter Shade of Pale , which peaked at # 94 on the Billboard Hot 100 .
HSAS only recorded this one album before already returned to Journey and Hagar recorded his album VOA , after which he was hired as a singer with Van Halen , where he succeeded David Lee Roth . Hagar and Schon worked together again almost 20 years later on the short-lived Planet Us project.
Through the Fire was re-released in 2004.
