Kenny Aaronson (born April 14, 1952 in Brooklyn , New York City , United States ) is an American electric bass player. Since 2016 he has been bassist for the band The Yardbirds .

Life

Kenny Aaronson started playing drums at the age of eleven . His older brother Michael Aaronson studied drums at the Juilliard School and played with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra . Kenny started playing the electric bass when he was fourteen . First he played in the hard rock band Dust . In 1973 he joined the band Stories . With the title Brother Louie they landed a number one hit on the US Billboard charts . After the band split up in 1974, he toured with Hall & Oates for a year . He then played with the Leslie West Band and then with Carmine Appice until he was hired by Rick Derringer , with whom he toured for three years and made several records. During this time they played two concerts as the opening act for Led Zeppelin in front of an audience of around 60,000. Aaronson counts these concerts among the most impressive moments of his career. At the beginning of the 1980s he was a member of the supergroup HSAS . HSAS was the abbreviation of Hagar Schon Aaronson Shrieve, the surname of the musicians Sammy Hagar , Neal Schon , Kenny Aaronson and Michael Shrieve . In 1983 he was a short tent member of Foghat , but had to give up the collaboration for health reasons. He was also bassist for the House Band on the MTV Guitar Greats Show with Dave Edmunds , Chuck Leavell and Shrieve. Here he played with Steve Cropper , Brian Setzer , Lita Ford , Tony Iommi and David Gilmore . In 1986 he went on the Whiplash Smile Tour with Billy Idol and Steve Stevens . In 1988 and 1989 he was a member of the Never Ending Tour band Bob Dylans . But in 1989 the collaboration ended after a skin cancer diagnosis. After recovering well, he toured with Dave Edmunds and Mick Taylor in the early 1990s before joining Joan Jett . He worked with her for four years. During this time he worked in 1994 in the production of the album Pure and Simple . An auditioning with The Rolling Stones is one of Aaronson's most impressive experiences. Other musicians he toured and made studio recordings with include Billy Squier , Robert Gordon , Graham Parker , Edgar Winter , Laurence Laing , Tom Guerra, John Eddie and many others. In 1988, Rolling Stone magazine named him Bassist of the Year . A record with George Harrison is also one of Aaronson's most impressive musical experiences. In 2011 he went on tour with The New York Dolls . In 2015 he toured with The Yardbirds and has been a member of the band since 2016.
