The Hahnenbach is a left tributary of the Boye in the Ruhr area with a 2.9 km long main course and a 0.7 km long branch (GKZ 2772682).

The main course originates in Gladbeck - Brauck from an underground collector near Lützenkampstrasse. It flows in a south-westerly direction past the Brauck cemetery and the sports field, through the allotment gardens and under the L 615. More towards the south, it goes along the south park to the site of the former Mathias Stinnes 3/4 colliery , which the brook circles to the south, and then turns north in front of heap 19 . Between the Mottbruchhalde and the Halde 19 is the Hahnenbach pumping station, into which the side arm also joins when coming from the north. The confluence with the Boye is located 400 meters further south-west on the city limits of Bottrop , the water is pumped on this route through pipes.

Emschergenossenschaft for the reconstruction of the Hahnenbach

After the stream served as a Köttelbecke for decades , a parallel sewer was built in 2008, which has been in operation since 2009. Since September 2010, the stream has been renatured again as part of the project to convert the Emscher system . The work should be completed by 2012. This will also create the adventure trail Our Hahnenbach , which will offer differently designed lounge and access areas, a “blue classroom”, art objects, information boards and small walkways at eight stations.
