history

View over Hain to Oybin

In old documents the settlement can be found under the names Henügen and the Heun . This later became Heyn , Hayn , in the meantime Hahn in 1732 and Hayn again in 1759, before the current name Hain manifested itself.

From 1561–1566, gardeners were settled by Benno von Salze, after clearing Ratswald in the city of Zittau , by 1800 there were already 26 houses. In the 19th century, a few villas were added after the road to Jonsdorf was built. In 1834 Hain had 138 inhabitants.

The residents were house weavers, forest workers and stone breakers from the nearby millstone quarries. From the late 19th century onwards, Hain's tourist importance grew. Thus, among other things, the inn on the Johannisstein was built in 1880, and other buildings and guesthouses followed. Even today tourism is of great importance in the place.

During the GDR there was a children's home in Oybin-Hain, which was closed around 2003.

The border with the Czech Republic in Hain is sometimes strange, for example in the middle of the pass road and between built-up properties.
