For the next season 1996/97 the clubs from East Germany moved from north to south and the clubs from North Rhine-Westphalia from south to north. That is why two clubs rose in the south and the final was canceled. The promotion rounds took place on February 24th and 25th, 1996 in Hanover (north) and Ludwigsburg (south).
