The building of the former Bayerische Staatsbank is located at the breakpoint .

history

Since the main train station and the city train station are relatively far away from the city center, a stopping point in between, at the height of the city center, was planned since the 1990s. First, 400 meters further east on Fischerrain , also as at the central stop, at an existing, historic pedestrian underpass under the railway. The main argument for this location was the central bus station (ZOB) for the city buses on Roßmarkt , which is only a 5-minute walk away .

At the beginning of the 21st century , urban redevelopment began in the west , a major project initiated and driven by the then Lord Mayor Gudrun Grieser . The Wilhelminian style quarter was redesigned in the course of the construction of the Schweinfurt City Gallery . Now Grieser had the idea to relocate the planned stop further west at the level of this major project, to link it with it and to open it at the same time. The city gallery was opened in 2009, the West City redevelopment was completed and the Schweinfurt Mitte stop was put into operation.
