Halvard Olevarius Olsen (born January 23, 1886 in Kvæfjord in Fylke Troms , † August 5, 1966 in Oslo ) was a Norwegian trade union leader and politician .

Life

In 1918, Halvard Olsen became secretary of the Norwegian Federation of Iron and Metals and a year later chairman of the union. In 1923 he joined the newly formed Norwegian Communist Party (NKP) and became its vice chairman. As early as 1924, however, he was expelled from the party due to differences in content, in particular his moderate stance on the Jernstreiken (iron strike). He initially remained independent, then joined the moderate Norges Socialdemokratiske Arbeiderparti , which was reunited with Det norske Arbeiderparti in 1927 .

From 1925 to 1934 he was chairman of the Norwegian trade union confederation, Landsorganisasjonen i Norge (LO).

At the outbreak of World War II and the German occupation of Norway , Olsen became a member of the “ Fagopposisjonen 1940 ” organization founded by several professional officers , which advocated cooperation with the occupation regime. Olsen worked together with Jens Tangen and Odd Fossum as a consultant for the Nasjonal Samling and eventually became a member of the NS party himself. In 1946, Olsen was sentenced to many years of forced labor for collaboration , but was released in 1950.
