Hamady Ounaré , also known as Amady Ounaré , is a town in the Kanel department of the Matam region , in northeast Senegal .

Geographical location

Hamady Ounaré is located in the northeast of the Kanel department, seven and a half kilometers from the border with Mauritania and the border river Senegal . The city borders on the left western edge of the alluvial plain that accompanies the Senegal Current and is criss-crossed by impassable wetlands and watercourses. The longest watercourse that runs through this plain is the Senegal branch of Dioulol , which in parts forms a network of confusing branches and leads past the outskirts of Hamady Ounaré.

Hamady Ounaré is 481 kilometers east of Dakar , 42 kilometers southeast of the Matam regional prefecture and 22 kilometers south of Kanel .

history

The village of Hamady Ounaré was part of the Communauté rurale (rural community) Sinthiou Bamambé and achieved the status of a commune (city) in 2008. Associated with this was the outsourcing of the urban area from the area of ​​the rural community, whose main town and namesake from then on was the village of Ndendory .
