The Hambach is a brook in the Limpurger Mountains in the district of Schwäbisch Hall in northern Baden-Württemberg , which flows into the Klingenbach near the hamlet of Heilberg in the municipality of Bühlerzell after a roughly 5 km long, approximately northeastern run .

The creek called Hambach by the residents and the local administration is usually or always labeled as Hahnbach on maps .

geography

course

The upper reaches of the Hambach by name arise on the plateau of the Limpurger Mountains in the area of the clearing island around the scattered courtyards of the municipality of Sulzbach-Laufen , collectively known as Kohlwald . The short left upper course called Hambach arises on the western edge of the Flurinsel at below 465  m above sea level. NN about 200 meters north of the Vogelhöfles in the Fohlenweide forest , flows eastward out of the forest into the large forest clearing, in a little noticeable cave under the coal road (here K 2632). He is soon accompanied by a tree gallery. About 500 meters below the origin, 200 meters northwest of the central settlement area Hof von Kohlwald, which consists of several properties, joins the 1.0 km long Kohlwaldbach from the right , which has crossed the cleared island from its southeastern tip.

In an already conspicuous deepening, the Hambach now flows in a not entirely north-westerly direction into the Kohlwald , where it reaches 430.5  m above sea level. NN the first and only significant left tributary feeds from the pointed blade . Its valley, like that of the Hambach itself here in the meantime and the valleys of most of its tributaries, is a wooded edge , as is typical for the surrounding low mountain range. After this tributary, which is mostly the border stream between Sulzbach-Laufen and Bühlerzell , the municipal boundary follows the Hambach, which now flows further eastwards with meanders.

Still in the closed valley forest, the Hohenbergbach flows from the right , which arises in the south in the meadows near the Sulzbacher Weiler Hohenberg and on its longer lower course through the Kohlwald drains the eastern part of the Kohlwald clearing island. Before the next inlet, the small valley around the Hambacher Mühle , which was just in the Bühlerzell area, begins . In front of this, the stream feeds the 0.4 hectare Hambacher Mühlenweiher , which is dammed behind an earth dam at the old mill building.

Immediately afterwards the brook flows northwards from the Hahnenklinge or Hahnenbergklinge , the main branch and left side branch Uhlbach in the Flurinsel around Hohenberg at the foot of the 564.7  m above sea level. NN high Altenberg rises. Following its course upwards, the municipal boundary leaves the Hambachtal, which is now entirely within the Bühlerzeller area. After a short stretch of stream running to the northeast next to the campsite at the mill, the Hambach changes back to east, crosses a forest bar in the valley and then runs into or in a narrow meadow again under alders.

Where it finally enters the corridor under the valley path of the K 2632 from Gantenwald to Heilberg, it opens at about 401  m above sea level. NN from the south its last tributary Rotklingenbach , it is also a Waldklingenbach moving approximately northwards, the direction of which the Hambach now takes for the last almost kilometer of its course. On this way he passes the single house Hölzle at the foot of the K 2632, the first public road next to the stream, and a pond of 0.3 ha on the left bank; In addition to the valley floor, the left slope is mostly free and the right one is almost entirely free of forest. Less than 200 meters from the first house in the Bühlerzell hamlet Heilberg , the Hambach flows at around 391  m above sea level. NN together with the Klingenbach, which comes from the west and flows into the Hambach bed from the left through a pipe; Like the catchment area, it is the somewhat larger of the two streams in terms of length. Their union, named after him Klingenbach, which now runs almost in the direction of the inflow of the Hambach, then flows half a kilometer down next to the river bridge in the Bühler .

The Hambach has a length of approx. 4.8 km from its source in the foal forest , from the source of the more important right source brook Kohlwaldbach of 5.3 km. He covers the path from the source to the mouth, which is 84 meters high in relation to the one and 94 meters lower in relation to the other mouth, with a mean slope of about 18 ‰.

Catchment area

The Hambach has a catchment area of 6.2 km², which in the natural area Sulzbacher Wald is located and on the north by the Limpurger mountains borders, both are sub-spaces of the Swabian-Franconian Forest in certain forests ridge between the upper Kocher valley in the west-southwest and upper Bühler valley in the east-northeast, which in total also bears the landscape name Limpurger Berge.

Mittelkeuper is on in the entire area , with the exception of only one small Black Jurassic layer island on the crest of Altenberg. The landslides typical of the tuber merge ( Trossingen formation ) can be seen on its slope . In view of the layer thicknesses typical in the region, the uppermost springs on the flat plateau below it would have to be in the Stubensandstein ( Löwenstein Formation ) or even below in the Upper Bunten Marln ( Mainhardt Formation ).

The southern border of the catchment area stretches from the summit of Altenberg on the southeast corner, at an altitude of 564.7  m above sea level. NN the highest elevation in the entire district of Schwäbisch Hall, westwards down to Hohenberg and roughly on the route of the Kohlenstraße to about the Weißenhaus ; outside here the Nägelesbach and the Sulzbacher Mühlenbach drain to the Kocher. The shorter western catchment area boundary now follows northwards on the Kohlenstraße and separates it from the catchment area of the Irsbach , whose outflow via the Eisbach also reaches the Kocher in Sulzbach. The northern border separates from the middle course of the Klingenbach outflow ; on the small ridge between the two valleys it follows roughly the route of the K 2632 from Immersberg via Gantenwald to the mouth and then on the right of the Hambach again a little upwards to the summit of the Heilberg spur ( 444  m above sea level) . NN ) at the Bühlerzeller hamlet of the same name. The last part of the watershed draws back on the east side from there to the Altenberg, drained behind it, after a first section where the Bühler competes behind the Heilberg , the Gerabronner Bach into the Bühler, which also takes the Klingenbach.

Forest is only found on about three fifths of the area, a small proportion compared to the other parts of the mountain plateau between Kocher and Bühlertal. The reasons for this are the large clearing island of Kohlwald, which lies almost entirely within, the large part of the clearing island around Hohenberg, which is adjacent to this southeastern, as well as large open areas of the mountain ridges between Immersberg and Gantenwald on the one hand and between Gerabronn and Heilberg on the other. In the flat parts of the open land at the height, arable farming is practiced, but on the whole meadow farming is likely to predominate in the open fields.

The low settlement includes most of the settlement areas of Kohlwald , which are scattered in the form of small heights and courtyard groups over its clearing island - the Jörgenhaus, the Vogelhöfle, the Gottles- Schaufel- und Wannenhaus, the courtyard “Hohl” and the central courtyard group “Hof”, while Kohlwald itself, the Stöckenhof and the Weißenhaus are only partially within. In the Hohenberg clearing island, the hamlet of Hohenberg is located on the watershed of the right Hambach tributary Hohenbergbach to Nägelesbach and the Hof Uhlbach on the higher tributary of the same name of the Hambach is completely within. All the settlement areas mentioned so far belong to the municipality of Sulzbach-Laufen , which has an area share of just over half, the following are all settlement areas of the municipality of Bühlerzell , on which the remaining area share falls.

On the ridge in the north in front of the middle course of the Klingenbach, Immersberg are just outside the catchment area border and Gantenwald only with a few houses inside, on the one in the east in front of Gerabronner Bach and Bühler, Gerabronn is clearly outside and only Stockhäusle is just inside. The only settlement areas in the valley are the Hambacher Mühle on the middle course and the single house Hölzle on the lower course of the Hambach itself.

Mouth of the Hambach from the right and finally south into the Klingenbach at about 391  m above sea level. NN , less than 200 meters from the first houses on the southern edge of Heilberg and next to the K 2632 from Kohlwald to there. The Hambach is here its source in the Fohlenweide km about 4.8, with its more important right source Bach hollow Waldbach against the appropriate remuneration 5.3 km long and has a catchment area of 6.3 square kilometers. It is therefore not much shorter and has less catchment area than the Klingenbach upper course, which is 6.0 km long and drains a partial area of 6.7 km², which seems to flow under the road into the Hambach rather than the other way around. Because the Hambach flows sluggishly in a wide bed here, but the Klingenbach flows in quickly and more tightly, the respective share of the discharge is difficult to assess.

Nature and protected areas

The Hambach and its tributaries, which also run into Klingen, have been preserved close to nature over long stretches. Alder trees often accompany the streams on the banks, which consist of flat parts and sections with breaks, which are sometimes bordered by marshy areas.

From the direction of the valley around the Hambacher Mühle, the Hambach valley largely belongs to the Upper Bühlertal landscape protection area with side valleys and adjacent areas . The lake that flows through the Kohlwaldbach near the Hof group of houses in the Kohlwald clearing island and an abandoned sand pit on the valley slope of the little road from Gantenwald to Heilberg (K 2632) are natural monuments.
