The Ulm Chamber of Crafts is one of 53 chambers of crafts in Germany and a corporation under public law . The legal basis is the law on the order of the craft . The Ulm Chamber of Crafts represents the interests of more than 19,000 member companies in the districts of Ostalb , Heidenheim , Alb-Donau , Biberach , Ravensburg , Lake Constance and the urban district of Ulm . These generate total sales of approx. 14.5 billion euros per year. More than 120,000 people work in around 130 trades in the companies of the Ulm Chamber of Crafts.

Structure and organization

The Ulm Chamber of Crafts is currently divided into four business areas. The chamber is led by a president and a general manager . The full-time managing director manages the business, while the voluntarily elected president mainly takes on political and representative tasks. Tobias Mehlich is currently the general manager and Joachim Krimmer is president of the Ulm Chamber of Crafts.

The member companies of the Ulm Chamber of Crafts send their representatives to the general assembly every five years . These are chosen through lists in a general, equal and secret ballot, in accordance with the craft regulations. The general assembly of the chamber consists of 39 members. Of these, 26 represent the employer side and 13 represent the demands of the employees. The board of directors of the artisanal parliament is elected from the general assembly and consists of a chairman (president) and his two representatives (vice-presidents), one of whom must be a journeyman or another employee who has completed vocational training (employee representative). Furthermore, nine other members belong to the executive board.

Statutory duties

The Ulm Chamber of Crafts represents the interests and self-administration of the craft for all aspects of the entire craft in the chamber area. It currently has around 160 employees. The Ulm Chamber of Crafts is subject to the supervision of the Ministry of Economics of the State of Baden-Württemberg . At the same time, it takes on state tasks such as the legal supervision of the guilds and the district craft associations in the chamber district.

Membership is binding for all craftsmen, whether self-employed, employed or in training. The Chamber of Crafts registers its members in the craft register and regulates vocational training in the craft trades. Among other things, she keeps the apprenticeship role , a directory of all vocational training contracts in her district . Craftsmen are active in journeyman's and master's examination committees and hold the respective exams for the individual professions. The Ulm Chamber of Crafts also names publicly appointed and sworn experts .

Range of services

The Chamber of Crafts sees itself as a service provider and contact person for the craft and its member companies in its chamber district. The focus is primarily on advice and training opportunities. So z. B. the starter center of the Chamber of Crafts in Ulm when setting up a business, the "Center for Business Succession (ZEN)" when handing over or taking over an already existing business. In addition, the advisors of the Ulm Chamber of Crafts are available to the member companies on issues such as business administration, personnel consulting, law, environmental protection, technologies and innovations, design, public relations and training. In addition to individual support, the Ulm Chamber of Crafts also takes on sovereign tasks such as the legal supervision of the district craft associations and guilds, the design and implementation of journeyman and master craftsman examinations as well as the management of the craft and apprentice role.

Educational academies

The Ulm Chamber of Crafts includes the three educational academies in Friedrichshafen and Ulm as well as the welding institute, which is also located in the Ulm Educational Academy. In addition to the master courses, inter-company training is carried out there, which enables the trainees to gain an extended insight into their trade. In ÜBA courses, the trainees learn skills that are not available in every training company or that are difficult to impart with the necessary calm and intensity in order to be prepared as broadly and diverse as possible for later employment in the respective profession.

Training center for innovative energy technologies

The advanced training center for innovative energy technologies Ulm (WBZU) in the science city on Ulm Eselsberg has been a training center of the Ulm Chamber of Crafts since the beginning of 2014. The main task of the WBZU is to support the introduction of new energy technologies such as fuel cells , hydrogen, batteries and mini block-type thermal power stations and to train and develop the relevant professional groups at an early stage. Schoolchildren and students as well as the interested public are regular participants at the WBZU and use the opportunity here to experience and understand the new energy technology innovations . The WBZU was founded in 2002 with the support of the state of Baden-Württemberg and the federal government with the mandate of training and further education as well as public relations in the field of hydrogen and fuel cell technology.
