Postage stamps from the Federal Republic of Germany in 2000

The 2000 stamps issued by the Federal Republic of Germany were issued by the Federal Ministry of Finance . The German Post AG was responsible for the distribution and sale. The year comprised 61 individual special stamps , two block editions, two self-adhesive stamps from stamp booklets and three definitive stamps from the Sightseeing series as well as two women from German history .

For the first time the year was due to the forthcoming introduction of the euro on 1 January 2002 with the May 12 Europa stamp a stamp with dual currency penny and Euro spent. However, this stamp is only valid for mailings from Germany. It is not possible to send a letter from other European countries with a German Euro postage stamp.

All postage stamps that were only issued in pfennigs were originally unrestrictedly valid for postage . With the introduction of the euro as a common European currency on January 1, 2002, this regulation became obsolete.

The postage stamps without dual currency of this year could be used up until June 30th, 2002. An exchange was possible until September 30th in the branches of the Deutsche Post , after that until June 30th 2003 centrally in the Philately branch of Deutsche Post AG in Frankfurt.
